Calculate your coin value in seconds

The calculator uses the same formula as we do at the scale: weight times fineness times current rate. A bullion coin with one ounce of fine gold contains 31.1 grams of fine gold, and that fine gold is paid for.

Rare collector coins can be worth more, because year and condition count there too. Only the value after our measurement is binding.

Selling coins – from the Krugerrand to the silver coin.

Coins are more than metal: for bullion coins the precious metal value counts, for collector pieces rarity and condition can matter as well. At our branch by KaDeWe every coin is weighed and measured so you can follow the material value. Bring your coins as they are: in capsules, rolls, cases or loose. Please do not clean the coins beforehand, as this can reduce the value of collector coins.

WE BUY YOUR COINS
Krugerrand
The South African gold coin is one of the best-known bullion coins. We weigh it and value it by gold content and daily rate.
Maple Leaf and Vienna Philharmonic
We buy Canadian and Austrian bullion coins in the common sizes and test them on site.
Vreneli and old gold coins
We appraise Swiss Vreneli, Goldmark and other historical gold coins by weight and fineness. For rare pieces we point out a possible collector value.
Silver coins
We buy silver bullion coins, commemorative coins and older silver coins and settle them by silver content.
Coins in capsules and cases
A capsule protects the coin. You may bring it inside, and if in doubt we open it together with you.
Entire collections
For larger collections we recommend an appointment so we can check each coin individually and explain every item to you.
Collector value and melt value
We tell you the melt value openly. If a coin has a good case for a higher collector value, we say so and you decide in peace.
Inheritance & Estates
An estate often includes a coin collection. We appraise it discreetly and without obligation at our branch.

No promises. Real voices.

Measuring the metal, naming collector value honestly.

For every coin we determine weight and fineness. We measure the weight on calibrated scales and the fineness with an X-ray fluorescence device, XRF for short. It shows within seconds which metals the coin contains, without damaging it.

We name one limit openly: XRF measures the surface. For coins that look unusual to us, we therefore test further before we make an offer. You can see the measured value live on the monitor.

Reading coins: what stamping and year reveal

On bullion coins you find the face value, the year and often the fineness, for example 999.9 on Maple Leaf and Vienna Philharmonic or 916 on the Krugerrand. The fineness states the share in thousandths: 916 means 91.6 percent pure gold. Older gold coins such as Vreneli or Goldmark have 900 thousandths.
Year and mint can influence the value beyond the melt value. For rare pieces we point out a possible collector value. If a detail is missing, that is no problem: we weigh and measure every coin ourselves. Please do not clean them, that can devalue collector coins.

Selling coins in Berlin: five mistakes that cost money

These five mistakes usually happen before the appointment at the coin buyer in Berlin. Each of them is easy to avoid.

01
Cleaning coins
Cleaning leaves scratches and can reduce the value of collector coins. Bring the coins as they are.
02
Handling coins without protection
Fingerprints and knocks harm the surface. Keep coins in capsules or cases and bring them that way.
03
Looking only at the face value
The printed value says little about worth. What matters are weight, fineness and the day rate, for rare pieces also the collector value.
04
Handing over a collection unsorted
Sort roughly into gold and silver. For large collections book an appointment so we can check every coin individually.
05
Coming without ID
Bring your ID card or passport. For cash payouts from €2,000 the money laundering act requires identification.

Unsure about your coins?
We weigh and measure free of charge and without obligation, on average in 15 minutes. Just bring the coins as they are.

Frequently asked questions about coin purchase in Berlin
Do I need an appointment for the coin purchase in Berlin?
No, you can drop by spontaneously during opening hours. For a few coins the appraisal takes 15 minutes on average. For a larger collection it is better to book an appointment. We are open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 7 pm, and Saturday until 6 pm.
Which coins do you buy?
We buy bullion coins such as Krugerrand, Maple Leaf and Vienna Philharmonic, historical gold coins such as Vreneli or Goldmark, and silver coins. We also look at coins you cannot classify.
What is the difference between collector value and melt value?
The melt value results from weight, fineness and the current rate. The collector value can be higher if a coin is rare or very well preserved. We tell you the melt value openly and point out a possible collector value.
Should I clean my coins beforehand?
No. Cleaning can leave scratches and reduce the value of collector coins. Bring the coins as they are, preferably in capsules or cases.
Which documents do I need?
A valid ID card or passport is mandatory. Certificates or purchase receipts help but are not necessary. Without receipts, the weight and fineness of the coins count.
Can I also sell coins by mail?
Yes. Request our shipping bag and send us your coins from all over Germany. For shipping our gold-back guarantee applies: if you do not agree with the offer, you get your gold back.
Can I only have my coins appraised?
Yes. The check and the offer cost nothing and commit you to nothing. If you come back later, we recalculate with that day's rate, because gold and silver prices change constantly.
