From guide value to payout
Reading the gold calculator correctly: rate, guide value and offer
The calculation is short: weight times fineness times purchase rate. Ten grams of 585 gold contain 5.85 grams of fine gold. Only this amount counts. The purchase rate follows the precious metals exchange and is reset every 10 minutes; the countdown on the right shows the next update.
Compare fairly. Many portals show the pure exchange value, our calculator shows the purchase value.
Old gold has to be melted and refined first, which costs money. Ask with every offer whether it is based on exchange value or purchase value.
What the calculator cannot see: stones, tooth remnants, steel blades in table silver and the collector value of rare coins. That is why we put every piece on calibrated scales and determine the fineness with measuring technology. Only then do we make an offer.
Calculated is quick. Measured too.
We answer questions about your result at 030 219 697 19, Monday to Friday 10 am to 7 pm, Saturday 10 am to 6 pm.
Non-binding. Measured on calibrated scales. No appointment needed.
How accurate is the gold calculator?
As accurate as your input. Kitchen scales are easily off by a gram, and a misread hallmark changes the result significantly.
Weigh without packaging, and subtract stones if you know their weight. Letter scales with 0.1-gram steps are more accurate than kitchen scales. It only becomes binding after the measurement on calibrated scales.
Can I value dental gold with the calculator?
Only roughly. Crowns and bridges consist of alloys, often with platinum or palladium, and tooth remnants add weight. We also buy dental gold with tooth remnants and determine the precious metal content by measurement.
You do not have to remove tooth remnants beforehand. Ceramic veneers do not count towards the metal weight.
How can I calculate the gold value if there is no hallmark?
Reliably, you cannot. With yellow gold, choose 333 when in doubt, as that is the cautious assumption.
Old family jewelry and pieces from abroad often lack a hallmark but can still be genuine. White metal without a hallmark can be white gold, silver or platinum. We determine the true fineness on site, free of charge and with no obligation to sell.
Why does my result change within an hour?
The rate moves with the market, and we adopt every new rate. If the rate rises, your guide value rises too.
The countdown below the price table shows when the next rate comes. For your offer, the rate at the time of the inspection counts.
Does the calculator also handle gold-plated jewelry correctly?
No. Hallmarks such as GP, GF, RGP, Doublé or 1/20 only mean a thin layer of gold over another metal. Do not enter such pieces as gold.
Gold-plated cutlery and Doublé watches also often look solid. We check on site whether something is genuine.
Can silver cutlery be calculated the same way?
Yes, if it is solid. Hallmarks such as 800 or 925 indicate real silver, the numbers 90 or 100 only silver plating. For knives, only the handle counts, if it is not filled.
In the gold calculator, choose the Silver tab for this and enter only the weight of the solid part.
Do I have to sell if I come for a valuation?
Do I need ID to sell?
For cash payouts of €2,000 or more, the Money Laundering Act requires an ID check. This applies to every buyer, not just us.
It is best to always bring your ID card or passport, then the payout is faster. For a bank transfer we also need your bank details.
