If blister and certificate are missing, we measure fineness and weight ourselves. Scratches and signs of use do not reduce the gold value.

Cast bars differ in appearance from minted ones. We accept both types and check their markings.

For every bar we check weight and fineness. We determine the weight on calibrated scales. We measure the fineness with an X-ray fluorescence device, XRF for short. It shows within seconds which metals the bar contains, without scratching or damaging it.

We name one limit openly: XRF measures the surface. For bars that look unusual to us, we therefore test further before we make an offer. You can follow this live on the monitor.

Reading bars: what stamping and certificate reveal

A gold bar shows the producer, weight and fineness, usually as a number in thousandths: 999.9 means 99.99 percent pure gold. Cast bars carry the details as a stamp, minted bars as cleanly struck lettering, often with a serial number. In a blister a certificate accompanies the bar.

The markings on the bar are an indication, not proof. That is why we always measure weight and fineness ourselves. If stamping, certificate or blister are missing, that is no problem: we still value the bar. Please do not open a sealed blister beforehand.

These five mistakes usually happen before the appointment at the gold bar buyer in Berlin. Each of them is easy to avoid.

Opening the blister beforehand

An intact blister with certificate makes the valuation easier. Please do not open it yourself, we will talk about it on site.

Polishing or cleaning the bar

Scratches and signs of use do not reduce the gold value. Polishing gains nothing and can damage stamping and serial number.

Going by the inscription alone

Weight and fineness on the bar should be right, but they are only a statement. We measure again so that you can be sure.

Throwing away certificate and receipts

Papers are not required but help with the valuation. Keep receipt and certificate with the bar, for inherited pieces also notes on its origin.

Coming without ID

Bring your ID card or passport. For cash payouts from €2,000 the money laundering act requires identification.

A valid ID card or passport is mandatory. Purchase receipts, certificates or, for inherited pieces, proof of where the bar comes from are helpful. Without receipts we still buy, in which case weight and fineness count.

How is the price for my bar calculated?

The price results from weight, fineness and the current rate. We update the rate every 10 minutes. Beforehand you can calculate it yourself with the gold calculator on our website. You receive the binding offer after the measurement at our branch.

Do you also buy bars from smaller producers or without stamping?

Yes, if they contain precious metal. Our measurement shows the actual fineness. If no gold is contained, we tell you openly, and you take the bar back with you.

Can I also sell gold bars by mail?

Yes. Request our shipping bag and send us your bars from all over Germany. For shipping our gold-back guarantee applies: if you do not agree with the offer, you get your gold back.

Can I only have my bar appraised?

Yes. The check and the offer cost nothing and commit you to nothing. If you come back later, we recalculate with that day's rate, because the gold price changes constantly.
