Diamond purchase Berlin: calculate the metal value in advance

The calculator only shows the metal value of the setting: weight times fineness times current rate. Our experts appraise the diamonds themselves piece by piece by size, clarity, colour and cut.

A stone in a ring therefore usually makes it worth more than the result here. Only the value after our appraisal is binding.

Selling diamonds: the stone has its own value.

For jewelry with diamonds and gemstones the value consists of two parts: the metal of the setting and the stone itself. At our diamond purchase in Berlin we appraise both separately. We weigh and measure the metal like any other precious metal. For the stone the four Cs count: carat, cut, color and clarity. A GIA or IGI certificate helps a lot but is not a requirement. Whether loose stones, set stones or a solitaire ring: drop by without an appointment or book one in advance.

WE BUY YOUR DIAMONDS
Solitaire rings
We appraise engagement and solitaire rings by stone and setting, each separately.
Loose diamonds & brilliants
We look at unset stones individually. A certificate makes the assessment easier.
Set stones
We also appraise stones in rings, necklaces or earrings without damaging them.
GIA and IGI certificates
A certificate documents carat, cut, color and clarity. Feel free to bring it.
Colored gemstones
We look at sapphires, rubies, emeralds and other stones in jewelry.
The metal of the setting
Gold, white gold or platinum of the setting is weighed, measured and valued separately from the stone.
Damaged jewelry
Missing stones or bent settings change nothing about the metal value. We appraise what is there.
Diamond jewelry from estates
We appraise heirlooms discreetly and non-bindingly.

Appraise the stone, measure the metal.

For diamond jewelry we proceed in two steps. We weigh the metal of the setting on the calibrated scale and measure the fineness by X-ray fluorescence (XRF), without grinding or acid. We appraise the stone separately by carat, cut, color and clarity.

That way you see what is attributable to the metal and what to the stone. If a certificate is available, we include it in the appraisal.

  • Metal of the setting measured by XRF
  • Stone appraised by the four Cs
  • Measured value live on the monitor

Reading certificate and engraving: what your diamond reveals

Four traits count for a diamond, the 4Cs: carat (weight), colour, clarity and cut. A GIA or IGI certificate records them. On jewelry the hallmark sits on the metal, on loose stones there is often a laser inscription on the edge.
A certificate is helpful but not required. If it is missing, we appraise the stone ourselves based on the 4Cs. We compare the laser inscription number with the certificate. We value setting and metal separately from the stone.
Where to find the details
Certificate: number, dimensions and 4Cs
Girdle edge: laser inscription with certificate number
Inside the setting: hallmark for the metal, for example 585 or 750

Selling diamonds in Berlin: five mistakes that cost money

These five mistakes usually happen before the appointment. With a little preparation they are easy to avoid when you sell your diamonds in Berlin.

01
Leaving the certificate at home
The certificate documents weight, colour and clarity. Bring it along, even if it is old. Without a paper we appraise the stone ourselves.
02
Cleaning the stone yourself
Harsh cleaners and brushes can damage the setting and surface. A cloth is enough, the loupe inspection does the rest.
03
Taking the stone out of the setting
A stone removed by yourself can get scratches or chips. We appraise set stones as a piece and separate stone and metal in the appraisal.
04
Asking only about weight
Carat alone says little. Colour, clarity and cut also decide. Ask for an appraisal of all 4Cs, not just the weight.
05
Coming without ID
Bring your ID card or passport. For cash payouts from €2,000 the money laundering act requires identification.

Unsure what your stone is worth?
We appraise free of charge and without obligation, on average in 15 minutes. Just bring the stone along with the certificate.

Frequently Asked Questions
What do the four Cs mean?
The four Cs stand for carat (weight), cut, color and clarity. They largely determine the value of a diamond.
Do I need a GIA or IGI certificate?
No, but it helps. A certificate documents the properties of the stone and makes the appraisal easier. Bring it if you have one.
Do you buy loose and set stones?
Yes. We appraise loose diamonds as well as stones in rings, necklaces or earrings, including solitaire rings.
Is the metal of the setting paid for too?
Yes. The metal is weighed, measured by XRF and calculated at the current rate. The stone is appraised separately.
What about colored gemstones?
We also look at jewelry with sapphires, rubies, emeralds and other stones. Ask us about your piece.
How quickly do I get my money?
After you accept, you receive the cash payout directly at the branch.
Do I need an appointment?
No. You can drop by spontaneously during our opening hours. You can book an appointment at any time, though.
